Lecture: Vocal Singing Synthesis

The goal of a singing synthesis system is to simulate vocal singings. The lecture gives a general view of the existing approaches and summarizes the theory of the swedish scientist Johan Sundberg. Many sound and programm examples. In a possible following seminar students can make their own computer music using the singing-programms. Lecture: Network Composition: A video interview with John Bischoff (2002)

John Bischoff was one of the first american composers who did musical experiments with music computer networks. He founded the famous groups "The League" and "The Hub". Jörg Stelkens did a video interview with Bischoff about Bischoffs point of view on the history of network music and strategies of composing. The lecture presents parts of this interview and gives a general view of the history of network composition approaches. Many sound, pictures and video documents.

Lecture: Internet based Multi User Instruments

Multi User Instruments allows more than one musician to play, jam or compose together with the same software on the internet. The lecture gives a general view of the different aproaches and the background of the used techniques. Many examples of former and recent art-projects in this field are presented. In a possible following seminar own experiences can be made by using a special midi-network software which the büro </stelkens> has created for that purpose.

Lecture: An approach of a physical modell X/Y controller

Since synthesizer are available X/Y controllers (e.g. Joysticks, Mousefields) are used to control sound parameters. The lecture describes the history of used X/Y controllers and an own approach to simulate a physical controller. This approach is realized in the authors software crusher-X.

Lecture: A formal framework for linguistic annotation

A lecture based on papers from Steven Bird und Mark Liberman. Annotation graphs are used to encapsulate different approaches of linguistic annotations. Annotations are used to describe e.g. large speech or sound data corpora. Annotation graphs are based on mathematical graph therories.
